This category would essentially become interesting if we also know "what else" type of game remain once we remove character games :P

Well, there are games like Tetris and Breakout with no real identifiable character at all. Then there are games with anonymous characters or avatars, like the ship in Asteroids or the Avatar in Ultima. Then there are games like Gauntlet and Rolling Thunder which have distinctive character design but the characters themselves are more a cipher for the mechanics and the themes. Then you have games like Sonic and Mega Man, where the character's unique traits or personality form the basis for all other design.
You don't play Rolling Thunder because you're a big fan of Albatross; you play it because of concepts like flipping over banisters and hiding in doorways. You do play Mega Man because of who and what Rock is, and what that means. There wouldn't be much of a point to a Gauntlet comic book, but the Archie Sonic the Hedgehog book has been going for nearly two decades now.
Though I kind of would like to see a regular comic based on Tetris. That would take a bit of imagination. --Aderack 09:31, 2 December 2010 (PST)
so that suggests "world-based game", "mechanics-based game" and "puzzle game" as additional Categories of games, no ?
