Initial thoughts upon first playing:
“Ha ha, that other team sucks.
What is that, like, half a dozen shots they haven’t returned?
Are the guys on that side just asleep or something?”
Then I noticed the “You are on this team” indication on the other side.
Oops.
I only got this from GGA, anyway.
Yeah, I was confused about the team thing at first. I figured out how it worked and then got bored with it in about 2 minutes.
Shaper played it for like, 10, and really got into it.
It should have a big banner above it saying “THIS IS WHY DEMOCRACY DOESN’T WORK”.
I was playing with 13-19 people on each side. My side was kicking ass, but… Scoring tends to happen in runs — if both teams are dysfunctional, then the one that scored most recently will continue to score. Half the time I was playing I didn’t need to be doing anything, because Blue just couldn’t return a shot.
Letting you move your cursor into the ‘overflow’ area to allow the average to be pulled right to the edge is a nice (and probably quite necessary) touch.
This … also reminds me of a vague idea I was toying with over a year ago about a semi-blind pong, where each player only sees his own have of the field, and has to act based on how what he thinks the other player is doing. I tried to figure out some sort of catch to make it interesting — something along the lines of: having multiple balls in play, each player can launch a new ball from his reserve, points are granted when a certain time has lapsed without any balls in play based on how many “reserve balls” and how many misses each player has.
