This is the fourth time I’ve been called for jury duty in less than three years. Is this normal?

I’m not sure there *is* a “normal” when it comes to jury duty.
My father has been called repeatedly. My mother has never been called.
I’ve only been called once, and it was only months after registering to vote.
On a positive, I assume you have a minimum time between services? Here, you are excused if you are called within two years of serving, I think. (Note you can still get called for some reason…)
I’ve been called once in three years, so maybe? Perhaps it’s a function of where you live.
I got called for jury duty while I was in Japan. Made it the second time I was ever called for jury duty, and it was within a year and a few months of the previous time.
For some reason, younger persons seem to be hit up for it more than older folks.
In NYC, simply reporting for Jury Duty ensures you don’t get called back for something like six months, actually _serving_ excuses you for a year. Actually, it may be longer than that. Apparently getting called back prematurely is relatively common, but you just have to call them and give them your receipt number.
Well, here’s something, from http://www.sfgov.org/site/courts_page.asp?id=3660
Where does the Jury Commissioner obtain names of prospective jurors?
Both the voter registration and motor vehicle records are used as source lists for prospective jurors. Names are randomly selected from the countywide population by computer. If your name and address do not match exactly in both the voter registration and motor vehicle records, you may have more than one record in the jury system. If this happens, you may receive more than one summons in a one-year period. If you receive more than one summons in a one-year period, please contact the Jury Office at 415-551-3608.
Maybe they flag frequent Law and Order viewers as extra-knowledgable citizens.
I figured this one out: it’s for federal court. The previous three were for state court.
So hey. Even if I have to serve, at least it could be a really awesome case!
A gripping, sordid tale of mail fraud!
