People are getting it, recently. Before a couple of years ago, I don’t think I ever saw an article like this, making the given points and working with the given assumptions. Now they keep appearing.
Makes a person almost feel like he’s been on the right path the whole time.
“I am a recent immigrant to the neighboring nation of casual gaming, and I find that I like it here. People don’t take things so seriously. They don’t care about being number one; they just want to have a good time, and you know what? I’m cool with that.”
The striking suggestion is that many people aren’t cool with that, which is a perfectly sad state of affairs. I’d bet a lot of history could be presented with this narrative: Outsider changes everything for the better; insiders pissed.
There’s also the common but less dramatic variation of “Outsider just quietly ignores the dumb stuff, and moves forward rather than inward; insiders grow old or irrelevant and die. People finally notice outsider.”
